Qualification recognition (Anerkennung)
Understand how your foreign credentials are assessed in Germany, which documents the recognition authority needs, and what the outcome means for you. The assessment usually takes around four months.

Figures and timelines are indicative and depend on your individual circumstances and the decisions of the relevant authorities.
German language
A B2 certificate is normally required for your qualification to be recognised. You can begin the recognition process once you reach B1. Most of our students reach B2 within a year, depending on the hours they put in.
If your qualification is not fully equivalent
You make up the difference through an adaptation period (Anpassungslehrgang), working as an assistant. The hours are set individually by the German authority, based on your practical experience and training. You are granted your full licence at the end.
Visa route
A Recognition Visa (§17a) if you still need to complete adaptation training in Germany. An Employment Visa (§18a) if you already hold full recognition and a job offer. Processing usually takes six to twelve weeks.
Working conditions
38 to 40 hours per week with shift rotations. After recognition, gross pay is typically €3,500 to €4,000 per month depending on experience and region, with 24 to 30 days of paid leave and regulated working conditions.
